Gorham Steel Logo
Gorham Steel is the steel band program for Gorham Middle and High Schools. There are around 70 students from grades six through twelve involved in one of the three steel bands flourishing in Gorham Schools. Several years ago the director wanted to move away from the separate branding of each individual band and form a more cohesive band that would appeal to all ages.
The Gorham Steel logo features half of a round steel pan with music notes silhouettes. The curved pen tool in Photoshop was used to trace the note shapes and the music note icons were layers over two of the spaces. The single eighth note and the double eighth notes create a slightly asymmetrical feel to a very symmetrical pattern. The round shape of the steel pan balances the straight lines of the text.
Kefa, described on the website Fontstand, “is elegant and modern with slab-serif origin, sharp and curved”. The thick stems and curved bars give this font a fun feeling while also remaining classic. This font tells us that Gorham Steel is an exciting group of young musicians who are passionate about the upbeat, danceable music they perform.
The logo is meant to be set in the school colors, white on a maroon background, for apparel including t-shirts, hooded sweatshirts and hats that the students will wear while performing. The logo will also be used in concert programs, promotional materials and on the Gorham Steel website.
